Welcome to Brading Haven Yacht Club’s web site.

Brading Haven Yacht Club is a members' club. It was created in 1950 by a group of like minded people for the purpose of supporting sailing, cruising, racing and sail training. The club is run by a team of Flag Officers; Commodore, Vice Commodore and Rear Commodores who chair the various committees which manage the club's affairs and activities under the Management Committee. All Flag Officers and the members of the Management Committee are elected by the members at the AGM. Membership currently stands at over 1000, and several hundred are cadets and young people.

Races are run throughout the year, slow and fast handicap races in various series. Sail training occurs from March to October and the high point perhaps is our successful Sail Training Week held in August. Our fleet of Optimists, Toppers, Picos and Wayfarers are available to support the training and are also available to borrow for leisure sailing when supervision is available. All waterborne activities are supported by our fleet of patrol boats (RIBs). Our cruising and motor boat sections are also popular, with both summer and winter activities.

Club Facilities

The club house has been developed over the years and now offers a comfortable and spacious bar, lounge and dining area, all of which overlook the harbour and the spectacular views across to the Duver and the moored boats. The bar and dining room are supported by our friendly and helpful bar and catering staff, particularly when we offer our wide range of social activities, including themed suppers and dinners, dances, international cuisine evenings as well as our luncheon and bridge section events.

As a result of many years of racing we have developed strong and friendly links with other sailing and yacht clubs, particularly in the East Wight. We are always open to sailing visitors, as individuals or as rallying groups of boats visiting Bembridge Harbour. Excellent food and drink are available for their enjoyment after what ever kind of voyage our visitors might have had.

Our main goal and purpose is to get as many people, young and older on to the water, with any relevant training and support. We also want them to enjoy the food and drink available afterwards too, relaxing in the bar, lounge or dining room.

Please explore our website and if you like what you see, come and visit us at Brading Haven, better still join us and become one of our members.

Commodore's Message: November 2009

Since I last wrote to members about the changes resulting from the AGM there have been other developments and this message is to update the situation. There have been three other resignations by officers of the Club; Peter Farwell the Secretary, Robin Powell RC Finance and Shaun Burden RC Bar and Catering and Vice Commodore. I should like to express my regret at these resignations and to express on behalf of the Management Committee our appreciation of their contributions to the Club particularly during this last year.

At a Management Committee meeting held on Saturday 7 th November the following new appointments were agreed unanimously, and with the support of the Trustees:

Secretary Dennis Chubb

RC Bar and Catering Sarah Noyes

RC House Christine Elliott

RC Finance John Carter (the post of Treasurer is included in that of RC Finance)

Vice Commodore Chris Wilkinson

Lizzie Mitchell remains as RC Social and Chris Wilkinson remains as RC Sailing

We now have a full complement of Officers for the Club. I should like to reassure Club members that the members of the Management Committee are all committed to proceeding with the management of the club with confidence and good will.

Changes have been made to the timetables of the caterers and the bar. They are now as stated below:

Caterers Sunday 12.00 – 15.00 hrs
  Wed – Sat 12.00 – 14.30 hrs 18.00 – 21.00 hrs (for orders)
Bar Sunday 12.00 – 17.00 hrs
  Monday 12.00 – 14.30 hrs
  Tues – Fri 12.00 – 14.30 17.30 – 23.00 hrs
  Saturday 12.00 – 23.00 hrs

During weekdays if there is no-one in the bar at 22.00 hrs then the bar will close.

These changes reflect the changes in take up of the Club's facilities during the winter months.

If members need to offer suggestions or raise concerns about either service could they please contact Sarah Noyes RC Bar and Catering. She will collect mail from her pigeon hole regularly.

We are looking forward now to the Christmas and New Year season. I wish members a happy time in the lead up to and during the celebrations.
