Message from the Captain of Racing

Here at BHYC, we sail a full programme of dinghy racing from mid-March to the end of December, and have additionally included an Icebreaker series (see below) to be sailed in the first three months of 2008. Race series are held for Fast and Slow Handicap Classes and for Scows, and a number of special races are run for experienced and novice sailors. The full racing programme is included in the Sailing Calendar accessed from the Sailing page of this site. The links at the bottom of this page lead to our Racing Instructions and Results pages, and to pages for each of our principle racing classes. We extend a warm welcome to all who wish to join in racing at BHYC.

Barry Dyer, Captain of Racing

....... ..........Ray's Racing Report

Ray Hurst, the Club boatman, writes a summary of each week's racing at BHYC. Here is his report for the week ending August 29th, 2008.

In a miserable and dull force 2 to 3 south westerly breeze, just six boats turned up for last Tuesday's evening race at the Brading Haven Yacht Club and under the supervision of Roy Knight and Pat Matthews an 1830 start was held outside of the club house.

Martyn Davies flew away from the line in his Contender with the rest of the fast handicap in his wake, and after just 53 minutes of racing took both line and corrected time honours. Chris Wilkinson made an admirable second place in his Europe with the RS Vareo of Marten Springett third.

Only two Scows braved the evening in the slow handicap class with the wooden boat of David Earee romping home the winner and Michael Quinn in second place sailing a glass fibre one.
