Format of Racing 2017

We start our main season with the Lent Series, a series of six races. The idea is a quick blast hopefully in some good March sunshine.

To reduce congestion in the harbour and to reduce the risk of collision, the majority of starts at summer weekends will be from a Committee Boat outside the harbour as identified below. There will still be starts from the Harbour Line for most races in the Icebreaker, the first of the Spring series, the Breakfast, Evening and the Frostbite series. Where two races are designated, the points from each race will contribute towards the series totals.

From April to early June there will be some Cadet Challenges alongside other racing. This is primarily for cadets (although all welcome), at the discretion of the training programme leader on the day. It will be a number of short races from a committee boat, depending on the weather.

There are two Pursuit Races this season, one in May and anther in October details of which will be posted on the Club notice board and Newsletter. The schedule of racing for the season is given in the sailing programme. Apart from the Icebreaker Series, which is for Slow Handicap boats only, and other special races as indicated in the racing instructions, dinghies will race in three separate groups; Fast Handicap (PY 1194 and under) Slow Handicap (PY 1195 and over), and Bembridge Scows with 5 minutes between starts. The start time and starting line, Home (H) or Committee Boat (CB), shown in the programme is that for the first race. For the Committee Boat starts please allow enough time to sail out of the harbour and get to the Committee Boat.

Regattas

The BHYC Regatta 2017 will be held on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th August. Details and racing instructions will be available on the BHYC website and on the East Wight Combined Clubs website accessed via 'Useful Links' on the menu bar above. The Cadet Regatta 2017 will be held on Monday 28th August; all events will be in the Harbour off the clubhouse. Full details will be posted on the notice board in the Club foyer.

The EWCC Dinghy Regatta, Bembridge Village Regatta and Scow Open Championships are hosted in turn by BHYC, BSC and SVYC. Full details of all the local Regattas can be found in the East Wight Combined Clubs Programme available from their web site and from the Club bar.

Inter-Club Racing 2017

Apart from the EWCC Regattas, there are 'home and away' interclub team events for Scows. Details will be available later.
