Scow Championships - Sunday 6th August 2017
The Scow Championships took place last Sunday on a lovely sailing day. There were two races on the cards with the Committee Boat placed up by Garland. For the First Race a Course Two was set for the EWCC book. This is a windward leg followed by two wing marks which are sailed twice round. This made for a lot of chatter on the start line of what the class should be. There was a good clean start with a long beat down to Pepe for the first mark. The first boat was home after about 25 minutes with a few tight finishes.
In the second race again looking at the EWCC book a course 5 was set. This is a windward leeward course set to do four laps. This time the start was very tight with boats reaching down the line but it was just all clear. On the first lap some boat went in to Silver Sands and others stuck out for Old Church. Between the first and second lap the order changed. By the third lap having run for 45 minutes the order had settled and the course was shortened. Again the Racing was tight. One notable battle was for second place between Jodie Spencer and Fergal Finlay with Fergal just losing out by having to put an extra gybe in to make the line by half a boat length.
Thank to Peter Webb, Jerry Summers and all the support crew for their hard work on the day.
The Results of the two completed races were:-
- 1st Peter Hayward Scow 13
- 2nd Fergal Finlay Scow 577
- 3rd Jodie Spence Scow 619
- 1st Lady : Jodie Spence
- 1st Under 18: Emma Gabbani Scow 555
