RYA Sail Training Week 2026 » RYA Stage 1

.RYA Youth Learn to Sail Stage 1: Launching and recovery, steering, parts of the boat, basic sailing. After this course you should be able to steer and understand basic principles.
Stage 1 is the starting point for young people aged 8 and over wanting to learn to sail.
This course is specially tailored to younger sailors and will teach the basic understanding of how a boat sails, with some experience of steering and handling the boat. During this course we aim to maximise water time, but there is some theory associated with the syllabus.
Cadets must be able to swim 25m.
