Future Sailors Program

Afterschool sailing for all abilities ages 8-16

Future Sailors Level 1

The Future Sailors Programme is an after-school sailing course designed for beginners who want to build confidence and develop their sailing skills. Participants will learn the fundamentals of sailing, including tacking, gybing, and sailing efficiently in all wind directions. Through fun, practical sessions on the water, sailors will improve their boat handling, understanding of wind awareness, and overall confidence, providing a strong foundation for future sailing development.

This is for age 8+ and those who have never sailed or have their stage 1

£22 per 3 Hour Session


Future sailors Level 2

Level 2 of the Future Sailors Programme builds on the basics and helps sailors develop more advanced boat handling and confidence on the water. Participants will practice key safety and control skills such as man overboard recovery and coming alongside safely, while also improving their sailing technique. The programme also introduces mini racing, giving sailors the chance to apply their skills in a fun, competitive environment and develop teamwork, awareness, and decision-making on the water.

£22 per 3 hour session


Future Sailors Level 3

Level 3 of the Future Sailors Programme focuses on developing more advanced sailing skills, with a strong emphasis on racing techniques and spinnaker handling. Sailors will build confidence in boat speed, tactics, and teamwork while learning how to hoist, control, and drop a spinnaker effectively. The course also includes a range of fun performance sailing skills, helping participants refine their control, improve efficiency on the water, and enjoy the excitement of sailing at a higher level.

£22 per 3 hour session

Sessions

Sessions May - July and September - November
Time 17.00 to 20.00
Age Cadets must be at least 8 years old and be able to swim 25m
Groups Groups will be 6 cadets plus instructor
Kit You will be sent a kit list before the sessions. BHYC have buoyancy aids which the cadets can use
Boats For the sessions we use H10s, Teras, Picos, lasers and fevas Cadets may also use their own boats.

Before the session starts you will be invited to meet all the instructors and have a look around the Club. Kit lists will be given out and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions and we will inform you how to book online. Booking is first come first served and any parents that would like to volunteer to help on the water or shore at these sessions please let us know.

Cadet Membership: Training cadet membership is £55 for the year
Price: £22 per session
