Future Sailors Program Level 2 Block 1
The first week of the BHYC Future Sailors Level 2 Programme is designed to build on foundational sailing skills while introducing sailors to more advanced boat handling techniques. During this week, participants will focus on three key practical elements: balance, trim, and points of sail. These sessions, taking place on the 10th and 11th, will give sailors the opportunity to develop a better understanding of how body position and sail adjustment affect boat performance, as well as how to efficiently sail at different angles to the wind.
In addition to the on-the-water training, the workshop session on the 12th of May will focus on essential rope work. Sailors will learn and practice key knots and rope handling techniques that are fundamental to safe and effective sailing. This combination of practical sailing and shore-based learning provides a well-rounded introduction to the skills required at Level 2.
Overall, this week sets the tone for the programme by strengthening core sailing abilities, promoting confidence in single-handed sailing, and introducing important seamanship skills that will be built upon in the weeks ahead.
