BHYC Cruising Group September 2025

On Wednesday 24th September 2025, four boats from the Cruising Group, ventured out to Gosport marina, the fifth one having sailed there the day before.
It was a bit of a bumpy ride out from Bembridge Harbour & into the Solent but once we had passed 'No Man's Land' Fort, the waters coming out of Portsmouth Harbour smoothed our passage & we covered the rest of the journey in comfort.
For dinner on the first night, most of the Group went to the well-known yachties pub 'The Castle Tavern', just outside of Gosport Marina's gates, where they enjoyed an excellent curry & other lovely fare.
Unfortunately, like so many pubs & eateries in Gosport, they do not allow dogs, so some of us took the very pleasant 15-minute walk along the embankment to 'The Creek', outside the gates of Haslar Marina, where we enjoyed a delicious meal of 'Porchette' & an amazing Seafood Chowder and Frodo (the dog) was spoilt with his own blanket, water & biscuits!
The view of Portsmouth Harbour, with the Spinnaker & tower-block behind all lit-up, was a wonderful sight.
The following morning, we woke to bright-blue skies & a warm breeze. Whilst a few of the Group stayed in the marina, some took the ferry across the harbour to Gunwharf Quays for shopping.
Others of us ventured, via train from Portsmouth to Southampton, to the annual Southampton Boat Show. What a colourful array of vessels & flags all shapes & sizes and a brilliant day out. It certainly gave us some ideas for our next boat!
That evening, we all strolled along to 'The Creek' for another wonderful meal.
The following morning, the weather changed again to cloudy, cool skies, as we all made our way back to Brading Haven, over a languid Solent.
The Cruising Group endeavours to visit around 10 local harbours/marinas each season.
New members are assured of a warm welcome please contact the BHYC office or Chris Wade (Cruising Captain) if you would like to join our friendly group!
