Good Friday 1st Day of the Regatta

Facing breezy south easterly and gusty conditions together with rain as forecast, it was decided to have a Harbour Start for the Good Fridays racing for the Easter Series Trophies. Eight Crews in Two Four Boat Fast and Scow Classes, braved the stiff conditions and set about a close starboard fetch straight from the start, down and out the harbour to Channel Mark No 9 crossing point and then a close inshore beat keeping in the lee of Ducie Woods back up to Spence Willard Buoy off Silver Beach, taking it to port and then a run back down to a laid Leeward mark to port in the vicinity of old church.

The Fast H/C were set 3 laps of this Windward Leeward Loop and the Scows 2 Laps,

before a welcome return straight back in and up the Harbour for a broad reach Finnish!

Good close racing and position changes were had in both classes with Both Stuart Gummer (Fast) and Peter Giles (Scow) taking both Line and Handicap Honours.

Brief Results are as follows: (Please See Website Results Section for Full Results)

Fast Handicap:

1st. Stuart Gummer (D-Zero) 2nd. Martyn Davies (Aero7) 3rd. Richard Douglas( F15)

Scows:

Easter Saturday 2nd Day of the Regatta

A F5 Easterly wind, forecasted to drop by 3 PM, prompted Race Officer Tony Burton and ARO Jack Slaughter to set a course in the bay. However, the big yellow mark's anchor didn't hold in the swell, so a second anchor was needed.

Despite efforts, only the race team ventured out, leading to a shift to Plan B: a harbour race for the Scows and Richard Douglas' Wanderer.

At 3:10 PM, the Scows started with a Y-shaped course. Martyn Davies in his blue Scow made a strong start and maintained the lead, despite a challenge from Peter Giles on the final lap. Martyn held off Peter to win, with Francesca in third and Rob Orr opting out due to the tricky conditions.

Thanks to the rib crews for their support and buoy retrieval.
